Burning rubber at the Casterton Drags

RUBBER was burnt and drivers held it flat over the weekend at the Casterton Street Drags.

The event was once again a success down at Sanford Flat with a great turnout and a full day of racing and burnouts.

The day didn’t go off without a hitch with the standby firies needing to intervene throughout the burnout competition but with nobody hurt, the day carried on.

Casterton Street Drags Club president Glenn Knight summed up the event on a positive note.

“It was a great day, I loved it,” he said.

“Good weather, perfect racing and the crowd was great.”

There were entrants from Casterton, Hamilton, Portland, Mount Gambier and surrounds in both competitions.

Elite class burnout competition winner Matt Addinsall was happy to take home a win.

“I’m pretty stoked,” he said.

“We’ve come here a couple of times before and had issues with the cars so it was just good to get the tires off.”

Mr Knight extended his thanks to people for being a part of putting the day together.

“I want to say thank you to everyone for coming. Thank you to South Coast Raceway in Portland because without them we couldn’t have done it,” he said.

“Thank you to all of the volunteers, photographers, media and sponsors. Without sponsors you can’t put any events on nowadays.

“And to all the club members for their efforts, every club member went above and beyond this year.”

There will be a tractor pull held in Casterton next March, with more details to come.
