Season winds down with entertaining games

DIVISION 1: Premiers - Norf. Pictures submitted.

THE South East Volleyball Association showcased the best of the competition on Monday night, with three divisions involved in grand finals.

In Division 1, Norf claimed back-to-back premierships after defeating a gallant Young Guns side three sets to one.

The height of the Norf side proved a major stumbling block for the more youthful opponents.

Some big hitting from league MVP Tom Madigan and Scott Agnew were crucial to their side’s success.

The Young Guns fought all the way, with young star and grand final best on court Shar Nay Than trying hard to keep his side in touch.

In Division 2, Strength of God upset the more favoured Crow Zero team 3-0.

In a highly-entertaining match, both sides refused to let the ball hit the floor, with all parts of their bodies in use throughout the match.

Some clutch plays from best on court Moo Doh Say and strong serving from the up-and-coming Gay Ni proved too much for their opponents.

Recent addition to the league, Jasmine England, showed off her skills in a solid performance for the runners-up.

For the first time in the league’s short four-year history, a Division 3 grand final was held, with Super Bomb defeating Ravens 2-1.

Division 3 has proven to be the perfect breeding ground for many of the up-and-coming young female players.

The well-drilled Super Bomb team, led by best on court Daylia Johnson and division MVP Nop Pha Rad proved a touch to good for a Ravens side featuring the talented pairing of Kinser Bao and Jeh Eh Moo Say.

The night capped off a successful season for the association, which now has a break before gearing up for their new season in August, along with preparing representative teams for tournaments later in the year.
