Council signs off on CFS deal

HOMED: CFS Regional Commander Jason Druwitt said he was grateful to the council for allowing long lease terms.

THE Grant District Council has renewed leases for the Country Fire Service (CFS) for the bargain price of $21 for 21 years.

The depot locations with the Grant District Council’s new lease terms were approved in a meeting earlier this week, with all locations asked to pay $1 per annum, for each location.

The CFS has three depots with the council area in Port MacDonnell, Blackfellows Caves, and Donovans. All three locations’ leases were set to end within the next year, so consultation was taken to allow them to remain for 21 years.

Three responses were made to the council during the consultation, all in support of the current system.

CFS Regional Commander Jason Druwitt said the renewal was welcome.

“As always, we are incredibly grateful for the local council’s support to the CFS,” Mr Druwitt said.

“The renewal of these leases will enable our volunteers to continue to protect their communities for the foreseeable future.”
