Field rugs up for cool day

THE first of four rounds of the Marlene Lingham memorial stableford trophy, sponsored by The Blue Lake Bar and Bistro, was played at the Blue Lake golf course last week.

A good size field of 25 rugged up and were eager to play even though the temperature hovered around the 10-degree mark for most of their round, with the sun breaking through as they finished. Two women from Apollo Bay joined the competition and appreciated the well-manicured course.

Division 1 winner Sue Agars was pleased to be back on the top step of the podium with 34 points.

Splits of 16/18 consolidated her win.

Runner-up with 33 points was vice captain Geraldine Scott.

Scott had 19 points on the front nine but fell away coming home with just 14 and finished one point shy of Agars.

Third prize was awarded to captain Helen Myers with 31 points.

In Division 2 it was once again the Bev Pascoe show as she is constantly in the winner’s circle week after week.

Pascoe had splits of 15/18, scoring on every hole for her 33 points to edge out president Beryl Mahoney with 32 after splits of 17/15.

Mahoney’s card did have five three-pointers, but also included three wipes.

A count-back was required for third place, with Lucy Richards also scoring 32 points.

Pascoe added to her prizes with nearest to the pin second shot and the best back nine score for Division 2.

Agars was the Division 1 nearest to the pin winner.

Fiona Punton had the best back nine score.

Lynette Hirth was the pro shot winner.

Meanwhile, the women’s AGM for 2021/22 term was held and all positions were filled.
