Shooters in fine form for monthly competition

THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its monthly shoot on Saturday in favourable conditions.

Up first was the Elders Farm Supplies 50-target skeet zone qualifier, with shooters looking to be selected in the zone team to compete in the state titles later in the year.

Dougal Simson claimed the AA Grade honours with a perfect 50/50 result, from Ken Atkin (48/50).

Kevin Mules and Michael Raper shared a Grade with 46/50 each, while Darren Beyer (75/79) claimed B Grade from Joe Densley (71/79).

John McIntyre won C Grade with a score of 47/54, from Brian Shelton (43/54).

The N. F. McDonnell and Sons 25-target handicap event required shoot-offs to decide the placings.

Doug Rohde eventually claimed the honours with 29/29, ahead of Surasak Piendomkijlert (28/29), Beyer (28/29), Mick Rudd (27/29) and Simson (24/26).

The Thomson Bilt 25-target double barrel championship was expertly shot, with seven shooters attaining perfect scores.

Shoot-offs in all grades were required to decide the outcomes.

Brian Spring – who just shot his way into the AA Grade – won with a score of 54/54, ahead of Greg Kessegian with 53/54.

Dale Robertson (25/25) won A Grade from Darren Murrell (30/31), Rudd (31/32) claimed B Grade from Scott Fleming (39/41) and Peter Klieve (33/34) edged out Rohde (32/34) in C Grade.

The South East Autotrade overall high gun went convincingly to Simson with a top score of 98/100.

the next competition will be held on March 13.
