CONCORDES White continued on where it left off in Round 10 Mount Gambier softball this week, with another impressive performance against the fast-improving Warriors White. Concordes started off on the right foot, scoring three runs in the first innings thanks to safe hits from Jo Hopgood, Sam Brown and Billie Jones.

They also held Warriors in the field, with accurate pitching by Jones and a lot of outfield covered by Hopgood.

Concordes extended its lead and scored in every innings of the match, a good sign for a team with a habit of starting slow and leaving a lot to be done in the later innings.

However, Warriors did not give up and finally found the scoreboard in the fourth as a few errors crept into the Concordes field.

Three runs gave them half a sniff at a big finish but this was promptly snuffed out by Jones, who finished a strong performance conceding only five hits and striking out four.

She also had three safe hits, on a day where every Concordes played recorded at least one.

In the end Concordes defeated Warriors 9-3.

Warriors Blue was without pitcher and coach Leyna Bruggeman in its clash but welcomed Erin Chaplin to the mound to take on Wanderers.

The match started off evenly, but it was the third innings where everything clicked for Wanderers as they piled on 10 runs and effectively put the game out of Warriors reach.

Rej Smith was best with the bat for Wanderers with three safe hits and four RBI’s.

She also proved effective on the mound, holding Warriors to only three safe hits for the match.

Sarah Moretti had a three-bagger in her two safe hits, while Em Hart and Jo Hart also had two safe hits for the victors.
