ROTARY Club of Mount Gambier West members have banded together with Limestone Coast farmers to help fire-affected properties in the Keilira district recover.
Fires ripped through the Keilira region, located west of Padthaway, over a fortnight ago and burned around 25,000 hectares of land and killed hundreds of livestock, also destroying three houses and farm structures in the process.
Thousands of sheep and livestock which survived the fires are struggling for food as most of the available grass and baled hay was burnt.
Rotary club members Chris Klaassens and David Muller delivered 34 round bales of hay over the weekend to those affected by the incident, with the donations received from club members.
Karl Gladigau and Hancock Contracting were also involved in the baling and loading the hay.
The club hopes to organise several other similar projects in the coming weeks to help fire and drought-damaged communities.
