Dinner event to raise cancer research funds

AFTER a gap of two years, Millicent will host its own version of The Longest Table next month.

The Longest Table is The Hospital Research Foundation’s annual cancer fundraiser and $280,000 was raised at 173 functions across South Australia last year.

Dinner-goers can help Millicent resident Carole Wenzel raise funds to fight the deadly disease.

Ms Wenzel has invited members of the community to join her at the Millicent Football Netball Club at McLaughlin Park at 6.30pm on February 29.

She is hopeful the invitation will be accepted by up to 120 people as last year’s dinner was a sell-out.

For just $30, attendees will be treated to a three-course meal and entertainment.

She hopes to achieve a large sum with ticket sales and with the proceeds of raffles and a silent auction on the night.

Ms Wenzel cited personal reasons for wanting to raise money for a cancer charity.

“I also have a close friend who is undergoing treatment for cancer and I lost my sister-in-law to this disease a year ago,” she said.

“I would like to see a world without cancer.

“We have had wonderful support from Millicent businesses already with donations of goods and vouchers.

“I have 20 of my friends who are helping me with the catering and they will be serving up good home cooking.

“As before, Chris Hollingsworth will be in charge of the entertainment.”

Tickets to The Longest Table are now on sale at Millicent Newsagency.

The Hospital Research Foundation supports people in hospitals across South Australia through vital health and medical research and improved patient care.

In recent years, the foundation has expanded its support to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and regional South Australian hospitals.
