THE annual Millicent Combined Churches Christmas Appeal is in its last weeks of drawing support from the community.

Appeal chairperson Paulie Watts said the appeal committee was grateful for the donations in cash and kind from service clubs, businesses, groups and individuals.

“New donation boxes have been placed in Millicent’s three supermarkets by local Lions Club members,” Ms Watts said.

“Donations can also be left at the Vinnies and Salvos shops.”

Each year, the Millicent Combined Churches Christmas Appeal raises several thousand dollars to make Christmas a little brighter for families struggling with the cost of living.

Due to declining manpower, the appeal fete involving all churches was not held in 2019.

In its place, successful wood raffles were held.

Members of the various churches will gather in the coming weeks to pack hampers ready for distribution.

The hampers are valued at well over $100 and contain items including a Christmas cake, ham, biscuits, chips, tea, coffee, milk and gift vouchers.

There are also age and gender appropriate presents for children.
