Casterton Sandford 2.5-17 d Millicent 0.3-3

MILLICENT was unable to find the big sticks in its Round 3 Limestone Coast women’s football clash with Casterton Sandford on Friday night at Vansittart Park.

The Cats and the Saints opened proceedings at the Mount Gambier venue, with a low-scoring affair the result.

While Millicent scored just three behinds, the Cats could only muster two major scores, plus five behinds to claim the win.

The weather played its part, but it was the desire of the Victorians which made the difference in the end.

Erin Horsnell and Chloe Finnegan were the goal kickers on the night, while Shelby Nolte was named best for the victors.

She was joined by Kate Tomkins, Horsnell, Madison Mutch and Emily Humphries.

Millicent was best served by Madi Turner, Sarah Fabris, Ella Little, Kalli Brown, Kelsie Wilkinson and Madi Thwaites.

The result was a big blow for Millicent, with the Saints in third place, now equal on points with the Cats on two wins and one loss for the season.

South Gambier 10.10-70 d Kalangadoo 0.1-1

SOUTH Gambier continued its unbeaten run in the 2019/20 Limestone Coast women’s football season, with a big 69-point victory over Kalangadoo in Round 3 at Vansittart Park on Friday night.

It was a relatively even first term, which saw the Magpies take the game up to their more fancied rival.

However, the one behind scored by Kalangadoo would be the only time they would bother the scorers for the night.

The Demons managed just one major and two minor scores in the opening term, but pushed on from there.

A further four goals were added in the second term, to take a strong 34-point lead to the long break.

After half time the onslaught continued, with a further five major scores for the second half to show South’s dominance.

Neave Delaney was at her best in front of goals, kicking six for the victors, while Lyndall Feast and Simone MacDonald added two each.

Delaney now sits equal top on the goal kicking list with Kybybolite’s Holly Hannaford, both with 10 goals for the season.

Delaney and Feast filled the first two spots in the best players for South, along with Emma MacDonald, Claudia Edmonds, Leyna Bruggemann and Simone MacDonald.

Kalangadoo’s best were Lisa Ilsley, Jamie Ryan, Paris Ackland, Amy Wight, Madalyn Bonanno and Emma Smith.

North Gambier 3.6-24 d Kongorong 1.6-12

NORTH Gambier chalked up its first win of the 2019/20 Limestone Coast women’s football season, with a 12-point victory over Kongorong on Friday night at Vansittart Park.

It was a welcome victory for the Tigers, who have struggled in recent seasons with numbers, but now boast a bigger playing list.

That had not equated to a win until Friday night on home soil, which is sure to provide some confidence going forward.

It all began with an even first term, where the Tigers managed just two behinds, but held Kongorong scoreless.

Kongorong hit back in the second to claim the lead by five points, after finding the big sticks on one occasion, plus adding a further four behinds.

Inaccurate kicking kept the Tigers in the game and they made the most of it in the third quarter.

Again Kongorong was held scoreless for the term, with North adding a further goal and a behind to sneak ahead by eight points.

The final term saw Kongorong push hard to run over the top of the Tigers, but North held strong, adding another major to ice the game.

For the victors, the three goals were kicked by Jasmyn Plew-Jones, Lorelle Walker and Kelly Anderson.

Piper Killick was named best, along with Sarah Thomson, Ella Simmonds, Plew-Jones, Catherine Pickin and Makala Cookson.

Abby Whitehead kicked Kongorong’s only goal and was named second best behind Samantha Loughhead.

Others on the best-players list were Hannah Kuhl-Miller, Marni Beck, Amity Formosa and Amber Formosa.
