THE Queen Elizabeth Park Trust has attributed “sometimes misinformed backlash” as prompting the public release of an external review of the Blue Lake Golf Links.
In a media release, Trust chair Colin Martin said following governance processes had restricted the ability to respond to criticism “on social media in particular.”
“Unfortunately this has led to accusations of keeping stakeholders in the dark,” he said.
“We are hoping the public release of this information will give some perspective to those questioning the move to step back from funding all operating expenses and enable an informed decision to be made on a more viable operating model.”
Mr Martin said although the public report withheld commercial and financial information supplied in confidence, it offered clarity on reasons for the Trust not pursuing another lease under existing arrangements.
The Trust recently came under fire after announcing it would not renew its sub-lease of the Blue Lake Golf Links to owner Bill Burley, instead supporting a volunteer-driven model.
The report, compiled by golf business consultancy WellPlayed, found the Trusts operating costs were not sustainable based on current visitation numbers.
