Millicent and District Community Club report discussed

CONFIDENTIAL talks lasting 85 minutes about the closed Millicent and District Community Club were held by Wattle Range Council on Tuesday night.

The matter was listed as the final item of business on the agenda of the monthly council meeting in Millicent.

Staff had recommended the Community Club discussions be held in private and the successful motion to do so was moved by councillor Dale Price and seconded by Cr Dean Burrow.

The publicly-released agenda suggests councillors were privately-circulated a 22-page report about the Community Club matter.

The South Eastern Times asked Mayor Des Noll OAM about the outcome of the confidential talks at their conclusion but he said he would not make any comment on the matter.

In all, Tuesday’s meeting lasted four-and-a-half hours and included a 30-minute meal break.

Council has been a major creditor of the Community Club for almost 22 years and has held confidential and other discussions since its closure in September.

Mount Gambier real estate agent David Herbert has marketed the Davenport Street property since November and has received two expressions of interest for its purchase.

The Community Club ceased trading in September due to high debt levels and Adelaide insolvency specialist David Kidman was appointed as the administrator by its committee of management.

The South Eastern Times approached Mr Herbert and Mr Kidman yesterday but both also declined to comment.
