Porch session transforms backyard into musical oasis

A MILLICENT backyard was transformed into a musical oasis on the weekend as part of Adelaide-born mini festival – The Porch Sessions.

Persian rugs and cushions set a relaxed scene while a crowd of around 250 people listened to the tunes of renowned acts Jack The Fox, Harrison Storm and Alana Wilkinson.

Ben and Sally Gower hosted the event at their Lossie Lane property on Friday night and said it was well received and a huge success.

“The talent was outstanding and the format of the event was outstanding,” Mr Gower said.

“Everyone chilled out on the grass as the sun went down behind them listening to original music of really high quality,” Mr Gower said.

“I’m more than happy to say we would love to bring them back every year.

“It was incredibly easy to host – the event organisers set everything up, packed-up, cleaned-up and supplied toilets.”

Mr Gower said he and his wife offered to host The Porch Sessions after attending the event at the former St Clare’s Catholic Church in Tantanoola last year and approached organisers.

“I would encourage others to host The Porch Sessions and see how we can grow the music event,” he said.

“People of all ages attended from newborn babies through to a 93-year-old.

“There was a really good mixture of people and they all commented on how much they loved it.

“The only negative comment was they wanted more and could have sat back and listened to it quite comfortably for hours.”

The ticketed Porch Sessions concert is a travelling one-night festival which sets up at porches, backyards and lawns of various venues.
