SOUTH Gambier has claimed the round seven Barber Shield cricket points over Mil Lel, posting 188 runs to defeat the hosts, who went into day two of the clash hoping to defend their 152-run total.

The Demons took to Frew Park on Saturday with an overnight score of 3/58, which saw Josh Thompson and Jacob Parham return to the crease to open day two.

The pair managed a 52-run partnership before Thompson was caught by Jack Miller off youngster Ben Thiel for 27.

Thiel was then greeted by an opposition young gun in Adam Kuhl, who took to the crease for the Demons.

But Thiel sent him packing with just one run to his name.

Dane Pople also fell victim to Thiel, as he was clean bowled for no score.

Heading into Saturday with two wickets already under his belt, Thiel rounded out the day with an impressive six scalps.

However, that was the highlight for Mil Lel as Luke Zadow padded up to steady the Demons.

He partnered with Parham to add 15 runs to the total, before he was caught off a Miller ball, with 39 runs to show for his efforts.

Michael Sims then took to the crease with Zadow and the runs began to flow.

With the total at 7/102 when Parham was dismissed, things looked dire for South as it chased Mil Lel’s 152 runs.

However, Zadow and Sims held firm and with a solid 76-run partnership, won the match for the Demons.

The total was at 178 runs when Sims was caught off a Thiel ball for 35, with Robbie Drenthen taking his place.

Just six runs were added before Drenthen was caught out for five, but the game had already been won.

Daniel Loupos padded up, but his time at the crease was short, as Zadow was caught off a Craig Neumann ball just four runs later to conclude the innings after 69 overs.

Zadow finished up just shy of his half century on a game-high 45 runs.

With the ball Thiel tied with South’s Camron Jorgenson, who also claimed six wickets in day one, while Miller was next best for Mil Lel with three scalps.

With 27 overs remaining in the day, Mil Lel returned to the crease for its second innings with the bat, finishing with a credible 5/118, but the Demons claimed their third victory for the season.
