MORE than 40 students from 15 schools across the lower Limestone Coast competed in this year’s Lions Mad Minute.
The Mad Minute is an impromptu public speaking competition with students delivering a one minute speech on a topic randomly selected for them.
This year’s lower Limestone Coast competition was held at Mount Gambier High School’s Garry Costello Centre for Creative Arts.
The three judges were pleased with the standard of the 42 participating students with a very fine margin separating the top speakers.
Two Lions Mad Minute Grand Challenge competitions were held in the Limestone Coast with the upper Limestone Coast competition held in Lucindale.
Lions Club of Mount Gambier Mad Minute spokesperson Rory McEwen said the competition had grown from a trial involving three schools five years ago to now 34 schools, 53 classes and around 1200 students this year.
“Schools have embraced this competition with enthusiasm and the students greatly enjoy competing for medals, merit certificates and small cash prizes,” he said.
