FROM science fiction to the after life, Mount Gambier’s budding authors are showcasing their writing skills through the newly formed Creative Inkwells group.
Ranging from primary and high school students to adults looking to expand their knowledge, participants are well on their way to creating their first magazine.
Planning to print 100 copies – which will feature their own creative stories, art work and photography – the group is calling on the community for extra support for its production.
“We have come a long way since we formed a couple of months ago with two members already finished their articles and completing the planning stages,” Creative Inkwells creator Charlotte Varcoe said.
“A total of seven of our members will be featured in this edition with plans to produce more in the future.
“While we have raised a small amount of money so far, we do need a bit more to get us across the line.”
Next month the group will host a trivia night at the Mount Gambier and Community Returned and Services League as its first major fundraiser for the year.
Run entirely by the group, the fun family event will include questions based on books, television shows and movies with adult and children’s sections.
“The community response has been amazing so far and we have had many generous donations of prizes and money to run the event,” Ms Varcoe said.
“We are all thrilled with how things are progressing, but we do need a bit more help with donations.”
Praising participants for their dedication to the magazine and the group as a whole, Ms Varcoe said they were excited to hold an official launch night and Mother’s Day raffle following the trivia night.
“The kids are really enjoying being a part of the group and have said teachers have noticed an improvement with their writing skills and grammar,” she said.
“They are working hard to produce the magazine, which will include a range of genres to keep everyone entertained.”
The trivia night will take place on May 26, with minimum teams of two and a maximum of five.
