COFFEE, cake and charity united the Millicent Lioness Club and a group of interstate cyclists last week.
Around 50 riders and 16 support crew participating in the Mercer SuperCycle flocked to the Lion’s Den and enjoyed a morning tea courtesy of the
Lionesses.
The super cycle event supports rural South Australians by raising much needed funds to build family style accommodation in Adelaide for country cancer patients.
They have partnered with SA-based charity The Hospital Research Foundation and build the cancer accommodation as part of the “under our roof” project.
In addition to the morning tea, the Lioness Club presented the charity with $500 in support of their cause, which club members hold close to their hearts.
“We were aware of the Mercer accommodation in Adelaide because one of our members used the housing during treatment, sadly she passed away,” Millicent Lioness Club treasurer Beccy Field said.
“We are thrilled to support a cause like this.”
Starting in Melbourne, the week-long cycle takes riders on a 1000km trek to Adelaide.
The event has raised $2m to date and $325,000 in this year’s ride alone, which means three more houses can be built.
