PANCAKE making will be under way at Tenison Woods College tomorrow as students come together for Shrove Tuesday and raise money for Project Compassion, a Lenten campaign organised through Caritas Australia.
Marking the day before Lent begins, Shrove Tuesday was traditionally a day where people would use all the fattening ingredients in their house in preparation for fasting during the Lenting season.
Tomorrow, the college will prepare more than 85 litres of pancake mix and cook over 1000 pancakes for students and staff during the day with Year 7 students from 7BM, hospitality students and members of the middle school social justice group and student council cooking and serving them.
There is always a lot of excitement surrounding Shrove Tuesday and students love to be involved in the preparations and cooking.
“It’s great that we can raise money and awareness and cook pancakes at school, because everyone gets something out of it,” Year 8 student Ariella Holland said.
Tomorrow will marke the first day of Lent with students participating in liturgies where they will reflect on the meaning of Lent and consider those less fortunate than themselves as well as focus on the themes of Lent: prayer, giving and fasting.
Throughout Lent, classes will be involved in fundraising for Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion appeal.
