Sailors return to sea

COMPETITIVE RETURN: Chris Lynch guides Sandrine through the blustery conditions during the return to Port MacDonnell club sailing after the Christmas break on Saturday.

PORT MacDonnell sailors returned to weekly club competition on Saturday after a welcome Christmas break.

The day saw eight boats take to the water, with two new inclusions to the club – Fullmoon, a ‘Young 770’ Trailer sailor skippered by Nick Rishworth and crewed by Andrew Rishworth and Robert Rishworth, plus Famous Blue Raincoat, an ‘International OK Dingy’ skippered by Kevin Knott.

All boats were met with a strong south-easterly breeze between 18-25 knots for the entire day.

The course was set by Neill Thomson a little different to normal, which created a challenge for all on the water.

A closely-contested start with first over the line in both races being Sandrine, skippered by Chris Lynch, with David Bryson and Craig Smith.

However, both races on the day where won by Greg Graham aboard I Was Once.

Next on corrected time for both races was new-comer Famous Blue Raincoat, followed in third by Sandrine in both races.

After a competitive return for the season, all skippers and crew look forward to a tightly-contested second half back on the water.

The next scheduled race is tomorrow, with officer of the day in charge Don McLennan.

Racing starts at 1pm at Port MacDonnell, with the clubhouse open from approximately 10.30am.

A full program is available on the club’s Facebook page.
