Police deliver new bikes to traffic centre

NEW BIKES: Lily van der Heul and Jacen Nockholds test out the Millicent Road Safety Centre’s latest additions with South Australian Police Limestone Coast Local Service Area Crime Prevention Section manager Andy Stott (front left), inspector and relief Limestone Coast Local Service Area officer in charge Amit Sareen, Wattle Range Road Safety Group chair Brenton Dohnt (back left) and Millicent Road Safety Centre coordinator Sue van der Heul.

SOUTH Australia Police have kicked off the holiday season by surprising the Millicent Road Traffic Centre with new bicycles and helmets.

SAPOL members made the delivery of 32 bikes ranging from 12″ to 20″ as well as 20 helmets to the traffic education school earlier this week.

SAPOL Limestone Coast Local Service Area Crime Prevention Section manager Andy Stott said the donation would help children learning road rules and safe riding techniques.

“Every two years, SAPOL gets new bikes for the road safety centre in Adelaide and in turn recycles some of their bikes to other community groups,” he said.

“Wattle Range Council has had some consultation with SAPOL’s Road Safety Centre and has been instrumental in brokering the deal.

“SAPOL recognises it’s a very positive thing for Millicent, Wattle Range and the entire Limestone Coast.”

Wattle Range Road Safety Group chair Brenton Dohnt welcomed the new additions to the centre.

“The donation means we can replace the older bikes, some of which are past their used by date,” he said.

“These bikes are less than two years old and it is good for kids to learn the road rules on reliable and new bikes.

“It’s also a good thing because it means we do not have to do as much maintenance on them.”
