Regional funds flow

2020 VISION: Regional Development Australia (RDA) Limestone Coast acting chair Alan Richardson welcomed the continuation of State Government funding across the state for RDAs until the end of 2020. THE State Government has announced its ongoing commitment of $3m in annual funding to SA’s Regional Development Australia (RDA) associations until the end of 2020.

The State Government currently provides funding of around $3m annually across seven non-metropolitan RDAs, including RDA Limestone Coast.

RDA Limestone Coast acting chair Alan Richardson welcomed the continuation of funding to support the RDA’s activities across the region.

“The allocated $3m will be distributed across seven RDAs and we will receive $400,000 to support our operations,” Mr Richardson said.

“Securing this funding gives us more certainty and will allow us to pursue our vision for regional growth.

“Our finance officer is retiring at the end of the year and we were unsure if we would have the resources to offer a long-term contract – now we can offer that long-term contract and attract a better range of potential employees.

“Our vision between now and 2020 will continue to work with the community to pursue opportunities for expansion in agriculture, forestry and fishing, manufacturing, grains, red meat production, dairy and horticulture, promote our premium food and wine and attract international trade and investment.”

Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock said by maintaining funding until the end of 2020 the State Government would help to sustain the RDA’s work.

“The RDAs provide valuable support to their regional communities,” Mr Brock said.

“Regional economic sustainability and growth is vital to the state’s success and State Government works closely with the RDAs to ensure their regional plans align with local and state priorities.

“This funding will be distributed between the RDAs in such a way as to ensure the greatest public value is delivered across our regions, to support diverse and vibrant communities.”

RDA South Australia chair Rob Kerin welcomed the funding announcement.

“The RDAs work closely with their local communities and with State Government to identify and progress priorities for the regions,” he said.

“This funding will give them certainty that will allow them to continue to strengthen their communities.”
