Wild weather cuts power

STORMY weather across the Millicent district on Tuesday brought down trees at Mount McIntyre and Mount Burr.

State Emergency Service and Country Fire Service crews were required to remove mature trees which blocked main sealed roads.

The maximum wind speed recorded at the Mount Muirhead automatic weather station on the day was 54kph, while 3mm of rain fell.

Power was reportedly cut to 1600 homes and businesses in Mount Gambier on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Millicent and Mount Gambier SES crews were called to Carpenter Rocks on Sunday to find a four-wheel-drive station wagon bogged and being washed over by waves.

No one was found to be in the car and it was later removed from the beach by a member of the public.

Millicent SES unit manager Gavin Golding said the SES was no longer involved in the recovery of bogged vehicles, but went to Carpenter Rocks to check on the welfare of the two occupants.
