COMPLETING his degree in graphic design in 2017, it was just one year later when joining The Border Watch production team that Dean Hill fulfilled his dream of becoming a graphic designer.

“After finishing my Certificate 4, I was working at a retail business when I saw an ad in The Border Watch for a graphic designer,” he said.

“I thought it would be a great opportunity to start my career in graphic design so I jumped at the chance.

“Since then I have developed my skills immensely and find I am always learning new things as I go.”

Dean said one of his favourite parts of the job is working in a friendly atmosphere with a dynamic team, but his biggest drive is making TBW clients proud of their advertising.

“I really enjoy designing ads that our clients are pleased with,” he said.

“It is great to achieve the message our client wants to send their customers – I love getting feedback on how successful our work is.

“I enjoy the great work atmosphere here at TBW, we have a really good work environment and I am part of an awesome team.”

A love of travel and helping others led Dean to explore his options overseas, spending three years living and working in Mexico, in addition to working in Canada and travelling throughout the United States and Guatemala.

During this time Dean worked in three orphanages building furniture and teaching basic English and bible studies in addition to building life-long bonds with like-minded individuals.

“While living in Mexico I was lucky enough to meet my beautiful wife Gabriela,” he said.

“We moved back to Australia in 2012 and have since started a family.

“My wife, along with my daughters Grace and Emilia, are the most important aspect in my life and I cherish every day I spend with them.”

Dean has lived in the Blue Lake city on and off since 2006 and enjoys the community spirit of a regional area combined with the convenience that rural living has.

“I enjoy going on short day trips around the region with my family,” he said.

“We’re always looking for something to do together as a family and we enjoy exploring all the amazing opportunities we have right at our doorstep.

“Although I’ve had amazing experiences overseas and love to travel, Mount Gambier is home and I’m grateful to live in such a vibrant and welcoming community.”
