TANTANOOLA 75 d NANGWARRY 22

THE last time Tantanoola and Nangwarry met in the A Grade netball competition, the latter did not seem prepared for the Tigers’ speed and skill.

Despite an improved effort, the Saints were again outclassed on Saturday and suffered a 53-goal defeat.

Sitting in the top four of the Mid South East Netball Association’s top grade, Tantanoola has proven its strength again this season.

The young Saints showed fierce determination, but the fast moving and strong combination of Emma Gould and captain Jami Walker in goals for the Tigers, forced Nangwarry’s defence to work overtime.

Saints captain Kayla Gray and Jemma Glynn both worked tirelessly to get their hands to rebounds or intercepts.

However, with the Tantanoola goalies aided by strong passing and movement from centre Casey Walker, the Tigers shot a solid 17-goal first quarter.

Down the other end of the court though Nangwarry’s wing attack Alice Circelli and Maddi Stephens at centre, pushed hard to keep the ball in attack.

Both players passed and moved around the circle well, but Tigers’ defenders Bella Poulish and Kate Bromley were too strong.

At the first change the margin was 13 goals.

The Saints swung a change at the break with Lacey Neale entering at goal shooter.

They started the term strongly, with Neale and youngster Ebony Wurst able to find their range in the goal ring, scoring seven for the quarter.

Gray again tried her best to slow down the Tantanola attack side and the Tigers were limited to 14 goals for the term.

However, the lead still grew and the fast pace of the guests continued to prove a problem in the second half.

Changes from both sides at the main break provided new challenges, but both teams adapted quickly.

Poulish was able to use more of the court to read more of the play and take intercepts.

For Nangwarry, Taysha Marshall backed her teammates and helped move the ball down the court.

Despite a tireless quarter from the Saints, Tantanoola’s relentless attack remained accurate and it added an impressive 22 goals for the term.

The Saints converted seven for the quarter, but showed strong teamwork and determination not reflected in the scoreline.

Further changes were made by both teams, before some injuries forced the Saints to alter the lineup again during the quarter.

A 22-4 goal term was the result, but despite the margin Nangwarry posted its best score for the season.

At the final whistle the Tigers secured a comfortable 75-22 goal win, with Poulish and Shelby Ryan the best of the Tigers.

Nangwarry was best served by Alice Circelli and Ebony Wurst.
