PORT MACDONNELL 48 D HATHERLEIGH 29

IN icy conditions Port MacDonnell made the trip to Hatherleigh to face the Eagles in Round 14 of Mid South East netball on Saturday.

Both sides were eager to take grab the points after the Demons claimed a seven-goal win last time the two faced off.

The first quarter saw the visitors get a quick jump and be the first on the scoreboard, with Hatherleigh forced to play catch up early on.

The Eagles took some time to settle, but once they did they were able to move the ball down court well.

After an even opening term the Demons took a tentative one-goal advantage to the first break.

Hatherleigh made more changes in the hope to pull back the lead the visitors had quickly extended.

Any high balls were taking in by the Demons defence circle and any ball not met were also picked off by the Demons in a strong quarter.

The Eagles injected Maddie Redman into the game who was a strong presence on court and able to combine with Demi Vanderhorst well.

The Eagles defensive circle made the Demons work for every ball, but they were still able to find access to Megan Hein and Kori Collins.

Port MacDonnell chased down any lose ball and continued to add to the score board to lead by nine goals at the main break.

The third quarter saw no changes for the Demons and a few more changes for the Eagles.

Port MacDonnell’s Alannah Berkefeld continued to create turnovers for her side to help them extend the lead.

Erin Watson provided the home side with a lot of direction and drive down the court, but she did not have it easy as Shannon Schiedl made Watson work hard for every ball.

The visitors continued to chip away and convert to extend their lead 15 goals at the final break.

The last quarter saw the visitors put their foot down and extend the lead.

The Eagles continued to push, but by that stage the visitors were in control.

The Eagles’ defence was able to pick off some balls, but were unable to convert, which saw the Demons claim the win by 19 goals.

Best players for the victors were Alisha Coon and Berkefeld, with Vanderhorst and Watson best for Hatherleigh.
