ROUND 14 of Mid South East football saw a strong effort from Tantanoola against reigning premier Kalangadoo, but the Magpies opened a winning margin in the opening half in an otherwise even contest.

The Tigers led the contest in the opening term, kicking out to an 11-point lead by the first break.

However, the Magpies found their feet in the second quarter and began to hit their targets and the scoreboard reflected the change.

Ten shots on goal yielded five goals and five behinds, while the Tigers could only manage one minor score.

That changed the face of the game dramatically, with the Magpies 23 points clear at the main break.

While the wind clearly provided a scoring end, the Tigers did not use that to advantage in the third term, adding just two major scores and three minors.

The margin was reduced to 16 points at the final break, with the game still up for grabs if the Tigers could lift.

However, with the wind in their favour the Magpies ran the game out hard, banging on four major scores to Tantanoola’s one.

In the end it was a 35-point win to Kalangadoo, but a lot tougher contest than many would have expected.

Dylan Bromley was in good touch for the victors, with four goals to his name, while Connor Gentile and Sam McManus kicked two each.

All Tantanoola’s goals came from single efforts.

For the Magpies, Tye McManus, Sam McManus, Lachy Jones, Ethan Maney, Bradley Auld and Robert Hein were named best, while for the Tigers, Jordan Hatt, Brandon Pitts, James Braun, Darcy Pink, Troy Hatt and Ethan Bowman were given the nod.
