PORT MacDonnell did what it needed to ensure it remained entrenched in the top four after Round 13 of Mid South East football on Saturday.

The Demons welcomed Mount Burr to the Bay, but had to play catch-up football after the opening stanza.

They kicked just one straight goal, to the Mozzies’ five and two behinds.

That provided a handy 26-point lead at the first break for the Mozzies, but from there the Demons began to find their feet on the wet surface and chased down the margin.

By the long break just six points separated the two sides, with the Mozzies still holding a tentative advantage.

After a lot of back-and-forth, the Demons finally claimed the lead in the third quarter and took that one-point advantage to the final term.

In two quarters of football the Mozzies had added just one goal and three behinds, with a loss now perilously close.

While the Mozzies added another goal in the final stanza, the Demons responded with three and claimed the win by 13 points.

After Kalangadoo’s loss to Robe, the Demons now sit clear in fourth place, four premiership points ahead of the Magpies and four behind the Mozzies.

For the Demons, Christian Howlett, Alex ridding and coach Josh Woodall kicked two goals each.

For Mount Burr, Andrew Ridley and Dylan Ridley kicked two goals each.

Best for the victors were Tim Sullivan, William Macdonald, Ned Wilke, Jake Turner, Jake Schleter, Colby Munro, while Josh Wallis, Sam Wallis, Taylor Allen, Wil Bowering, Clinton Gallio and Dylan Ridley were best for the Mozzies.
