NORTH GAMBIER v MILLICENT

THIS week’s Limestone Coast football match of the round will likely take place at Vansittart Park.

Second-placed North Gambier hosts top-of-the-table Millicent in what should be a thrilling contest between two in-form clubs.

The Saints thwarted South Gambier by 54 points last week and as a result allowed the Tigers to step up into second spot.

While North should be up to the task of challenging their rival, defeating them is something else entirely.

Millicent has only one blemish this season – a one-point loss to South early in the year.

With no signs of slowing down, the young side is overflowing with in-form talent and will require some careful match-ups from the Tigers if they are to stand a chance.

Frazer Bradley and Kobe Gibson have been dangerous up forward, but last week it was an even spread in front of goals which got the job done.

A total of five players kicked two goals each, while it was Austin Fuller who topped the best players’ list.

Jacob Carger is another goal kicking option, but also fares well in defence.

If the previous meeting is anything to go by, we could have an entertaining match on our hands.

That Round 5 meeting had Millicent prevail by a solitary point, with the Tigers leading at the second and third changes, only to go down in a thriller.

Josh Jenner was best-on-ground for North on the day and he has continued to impress since.

Mitchell Kelton will need to be at his best in the ruck when facing Finn Grimes and the pair should have a good battle.

One major change since that clash is the return of Sam Stafford to the Tigers’ ranks.

Injury had him sidelined back in Round 5, but he has been making waves since slotting back into the roster two round’s ago.

He has kicked 10 goals total across those two games and will be chasing another bag this weekend.

The teams match up well and while Millicent holds an edge going in, the Tigers will be confident they have what it takes to topple the ladder leaders.
