BLUE Lake Archers had an unusual arrangement of archery last weekend.

A quick indoor practice session Friday night was not scored and competition for the weekend revolved around Sunday’s outdoor rounds.

As it transpired a packed field during the beginner’s session gave many of the club members sufficient archery time to call it a day when it was time to kick the competitive rounds into gear.

A 30-metre 90-arrow Geelong round attracted father and son duo Allan and Callum Oscar.

The longer distance event also offered was a repeat of last week’s 72-arrow BLA 50/720 and gained only a trio of archers.

As the two rounds differed in the number of arrows scored, there was to be two winners for the day.

A cool and occasional gusty breeze in the afternoon took some of the punch out of off the bow scores, but the two winners were able to exceed their benchmarks.

In the Geelong round dad, Allan, held all the cards on the best off-the-bow score at the end of the day, but his son Callum was just three points shy of his best score for the round, the youngster claiming the Geelong round win on adjusted scores by a resounding 88 points. The trip home would have been an interesting discussion on who’s achievement was the superior.

Having earned his handicap scoring rating last week, Brayden White was on even footing with his longer serving fellow competitors Ben Kilsby and Graham Lock, the trio zipping through the required number of scored arrows in the BLA 50/720.

A last-gasp Perfect 60-point end from the final six arrows of the day was insufficient to push Kilsby into the runner-up position.

An improvement on White’s personal best propelled him to clearing the board in adjusted scores, winning the day by 41 points from Lock.

Indoor archery at the Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park, Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 12.30pm Sunday.

Outdoor Geelong round, handicap scored, benchmark 900 points: Callum Oschar 904 (off the bow 620, score rating 26); Allan Oschar 816 (685, score rating 34).
