Hunt claims women’s championship at Attamurra

THE Mount Gambier Golf Club held its women’s Cl;ub Championships last week in ideal conditions.

Three grades competed for the honours, with a varying number of holes, while non-competitors played a stableford round.

In the A Grade Leanne Hunt played Faye Mainwaring over 36 holes and Hunt took the championship at 2-up and one to go, a fitting finish for both players.

Jan Shanahan and Denise Harvey also played 36 holes in the B Grade play-off and Shanahan took the honours which was decided on the 36th hole, with Shanahan 1-up.

In the C Grade new-comer Mardi Goodes played against Deb Fowler over 27 holes and Fowler took the championship.

Fowler won the match with 3-up and one to go.

In D Grade the outright winner was Julie Hanel.

Stableford round winners were Marie Douglas in Division 1 with 34 points and Val Grubb with 33 points.

In Division 2 Heather Chapman was the winner with 34 points on a count-back from Rose Hunt, also on 34.

Special prizes were awarded to Helen McIntyre for the pro-shot on the eighth hole, Penni Saffin won A Grade nearest the pin second shot, Helen Heaver took NTP second Shot for B Grade and C Grade NTP second shot went to Yvonne Shirley.
