A GRADE: BORDERTOWN 20.14 (134) D PENOLA 13.7 (85)

PENOLA A Grade footballers suffered a big loss at the hands of Bordertown in Round 6 of Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara football.

Despite the home-ground advantage, the Eagles were on the back foot from the outset.

Three major scores to Bordertown’s six set the scene and the Eagles played catch-up football from there.

They added another four goals in the second term, but Bordertown put on five to keep the margin increasing.

The third quarter was no better for Penola, with just two more goals, while the visitors added six.

The final quarter went in Penola’s favour, but by then it was too late as Bordertown claimed a 49-point win.

The victors were well served by Kyle Emery with eight goals, while Tom Wittlesea kicked four.

For Penola, Brodie Foster was a major focus up forward, with five goals to his name, while Jak Ryan chipped in with three.

Brad Bryant, Brad Merrett, Foster, Ryan, Jayden Eldridge and Beau Shinnick were named best for the Eagles.

RESERVES: BORDERTOWN 7.18 (60) D PENOLA 4.2 (26)

THERE was no fairytale ending for Adam Merrett in his 300th senior game for the Penola, as the Reserves side suffered a 34-point loss to Bordertown.

The opening term set the scene for the game, as the Eagles kicked just one behind, while Bordertown added one major score and three behinds.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the damage increased from there, with Penola adding one straight goal in the second term, to Bordertown’s three.

The visitors suffered accuracy issues in front of goal, which let the Eagles off the hook somewhat, but they still could not capitalise in the third term.

The final stanza saw the Eagles finish with another two major scores while holding Bordertown to one, but with 18 behinds to accompany their seven major scores, the visitors were easy victors.

Penola’s four goals came from solo efforts, with Aden Brand, Corey Brand, Tom Clayfield and Ryan Zerk contributing.
