THE Mount Gambier Pioneers women will kick off Round 3 of the NBL1 South competition with a home game against the Launceston Tornadoes on Friday night.

The Pioneers currently sit third on the ladder thanks to four wins from four games to open the season.

Round 1 saw solid victories over the Sandringham Sabres and the Waverley Falcons on the road, with some good numbers put up by the Pioneers women.

The success continued in Round 2, with a big win over the Frankston Blues, before a heart-stopping three-point victory over the Ballarat Miners, both at Wulanda.

The Tornadoes are yet to chalk up a win after three outings and will have a tough task to beat the hot Mount Gambier roster, which looks every bit as good as the 2023 side, despite a few changes in personnel.
