SUNDAY’S outdoor archery competition at Blue Lake Archer’s Corriedale Park range saw two archers breaking out of their handicap ratings and a pair of new personal-best scores recorded.

A split round was the order of the day, with the best handicap adjusted score to be declared the overall winner.

A 30 metre Geelong round was paired with a Short Canberra over 50, 40 and 30 metres.

Both rounds utilise the larger 122cm target face.

Visting recurve archer Trevor Kriesl of United Archers in the mid north of South Australia joined the local competitors on the range and chose to compete in the Short Canberra.

Archers divide the 90 arrows required for the rounds on offer into six arrow ends, therefore having 15 ends to complete the round.

An archer finding all of their six arrows in the gold coloured section of the target face is credited with an all gold end.

If all six arrows are in the maximum 10-point zone of the centre, the archer has scored a Perfect 60 point end.

As the day drew to its conclusion, a Perfect 60 point end was noted on Paul Freeman’s scoresheet, adding to his count of nine all gold ends throughout the afternoon.

Barebow compound archer Dale Tschpig picked up an All Gold end to add to his growing tally of that feat.

Tamika Mullan found six gold ends when scoring her arrows and Anthony Cox finished his day on a high note with a pair of All Gold ends.

At the conclusion of the day Kriesl put in his best ever score for the Short Canberra, improving on his previous best by 28 points.

Checking the final adjusted scores, the two front runners for the day both finished above the benchmark of 900 points.

The ultimate win went to the youngest competitor on the range.

Quiet achiever Callum Oschar finished an impressive 16 points over his expected score, boosting his way to the outright win, a new PB and leading Freeman home by a comfortable 13 points.

Indoor archery continues at the Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park, Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 12.30pm Sunday.
