A BIG field has assembled for the South Australian Street Stock title to be run at the Borderline Speedway on Saturday night.

A total of 61 cars have nominated and will be joined by 10 Junior Sedans and nine Super Modifieds to fill the night out.

There will be no shortage of talent on the clay oval, with Australia number one, current SA Title and Victorian Title holder Nathan Thorne on deck, along with high-profile Limestone Coast drivers Anthony Beare and Jason Duell.

There are many more drivers from the local region, certain to give the parochial crowd something to cheer for throughout the night.

That includes Corey Crafter, Jayden Edwards, Alex, Mark, Cameron and Scott Merrett, Mark Jennings and Steve Gartner

Beare is a multiple state and national title holder, while Duell, Gartner and Jennings have certainly won their fair share.

Matt Nelson has also been Australian champion, and held state titles in Victoria, NSW, Queensland and South Australia.

In an interesting twist, Thorne’s father originates from Penola to add to the local content.

Borderline Speedway president Cary Jennings said it was an interesting car that could change the face of the sport in the future.

“He has a front-wheel-drive Magna,” he said.

“The class has always been rear-wheel-drive vehicles.

“He has shown he can get that going well, so we will see how it goes in the future.”

With such high-profiles drivers present and the sheer number of competitors, the night promises to provide plenty of entertainment.

“Every state is represented which is great for Mount Gambier,” Jennings said.

“We are very happy with the size of the field.”

Jennings said the Super Modifieds were the predecessor to the current Sprintcars and should be fun to watch, while the Limestone Coast junior representation is on the improve in the Junior Sedans.

“It should be a close and well-contested night of racing,” he said.

“In the Street Stocks we will have three heats for each driver, then a C Main, a couple of B Mains and the A Main.

“Across the whole night there should be about 28 races, so it will be a big night of racing.”

Gates will open at 4pm, with action from 5pm.
