A MILESTONE feat for one of the Blue Lake Archers members was a feature of the club’s weekend activities that offered indoor and outdoor contests.

Indoor competition Friday night was a combined 25 and 18-metre round, but a minimal team of archers was available on the night.

Ben Kilsby opened up his shoulders to make sure all 60 of his scored arrows landed in the gold coloured centre of the target face, which helped push his final score rating into triple digits.

Tamika Mullan tired toward the end of the event, but fought on to still manage a credible score to follow Kilsby home by 19 points.

Sunday was a busier day for the club on the outdoor range, the warm weather attracting a good turnout for a beginner’s session and the later competition.

The bright sun also prompted the club to test its shade shelter that was erected on the range for player comfort during breaks.

A Melbourne or a Geelong were the two 90-arrow rounds on offer for the afternoon, the majority nominating into the Geelong.

Barebow archers choose to have minimal accessories added to their bow, sights, stabiliser rods and arrow release aids the most obvious deleted items that normally enhance the accuracy the archer can obtain.

Dale Tschirpig is the only local members to have chosen Barebow compound as his division.

Opening his day with five of his six arrows in the gold-coloured centre score area of the target face had Tschirpig ruing a missed opportunity for his first ever all-gold end, if only the last arrow had been a smidgen closer to the centre.

Three ends later Tschirpig landed that elusive all-gold end with all six arrows scoring in the gold area of the face, a rare feat for barebow archers.

On the 50-metre range Anthony Cox was having a great day also, adding an all-gold end to his score line in the early stages of the day as he proved to be the foil as Tschirpig pushed his adjusted scoreline out of reach of his opposition.

Final results for the day fittingly saw Tschirpig clean up the adjusted score results, leading Cox home by 21 points.

Cox did not have it all his own way as Callum Oschar piled on the pressure, falling just two points shy of claiming the runner-up position.

Indoor archery continues at the Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park, Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 12.30pm on Sunday.
