THE Mount Gambier and District tennis season continued over the weekend with Round 13 of the Division 3 competition throwing a mix of results.

Ladder leader Mount Gambier had a big win over Mil Lel, while Moorak defeated Suttontown by two sets and Uniting/Glencoe had an 8-4 set win over Centrals.

Over at Mil Lel, the top team made short work of their hosts.

CJ Arnold flew the flag for Mil Lel in the top men’s singles with a dominant 6-0 win over Lachlan Patzel.

However, his was the only success for the home team.

The other singles sets were also one-sided, with a 6-3 win to Lucy Clarke over Rhiannon Hoggan the closest encounter.

Mil Lel put up more of a fight in a couple of the doubles, with Hoggan and Amity Sheedy going down to Clarke and Haylie Gregor 6-4, while another 6-4 result was recorded when Patzel and A Hopgood defeated Arnold and Kynan Sheedy.

The other matches were easily won, reflected in the final game count with Gambier winning 66 to Mil Lel’s 25.

A good battle was had at Olympic Park when Centrals hosted Uniting/Glencoe.

The latter claimed the win at the end of the day, but not without a few tough matches.

Uniting/Glencoe won four of the six singles sets, with the closest match a 7-5 win to Centrals’ Kirrilee Liebelt over Lauren Beare.

Ali Auld had a closer 6-4 win over Centrals’ Amber Kidman, while Jess Stewart, Sergio Cesaro and Sam Auld had good wins for the visitors.

There were some closer sets in the doubles with three 6-4 results, including a tight tussle between the pairing of Ali Auld and Eliza Cole with Kidman and Katie Gaffney.

That match went the way of the former, as did three more of the six sets, pushing Uniting/Glencoe to an 8-4 overall victory.

The closest fixture of the day was played at Moorak when Suttontown visited for a close encounter.

The hosts prevailed by two sets at the end of the day, with the doubles deciding it in the end.

The singles were split evenly with three sets each.

Of those the closest match was between Moorak’s Danielle Helbers and Suttontown’s Trudy-Anne Doyle, where the former won 6-4.

The doubles were where Moorak stamped its authority with four of the six sets going its way.

That was enough to secure the overall honours and give Moorak its third win of the season.
