Close contest at Mount Gambier range

THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its monthly competition on Saturday in fine and sunny conditions, with some winds thrown in.

The dedicated shooters obtained some high scores and shoot-offs were needed to decide the winners.

The opening event was the Elders Farm Supplies 50-target Skeet Championship, enthusiastically shot with competitors showing off their skills.

Kevin Mules (47/50) won AA Grade from Ken Atkin 44/50.

Liz Rymill (46/50) won A Grade, Andrew Hoare (43/50) claimed B Grade from Warren Lindner (41/50), while Darren Murrell shot 45/50 to win C Grade from Nicola Dunn with 41/50.

The Blue Lake Golf Club 25-target Handicap event was exceptionally-well shot, with shoot-offs needed to decide the five placegetters.

Rodney Gilcrist was in fine form with 29/30 to just out-shoot Mick Little with 28/30.

Lindner was third with 35/38, ahead of Peter Klieve (34/38) in fourth and Robert Atkinson in fifth with 27/30.

The AJs Refrigeration 30-target Champion of Champions again brought out the best in the competitors.

Lindner narrowly won AA Grade with 48/50, from Gavin Height (47/50).

Dunn (48/50) just edged out Scott Fleming (47/50) to win A Grade, while Atkinson (46/50) easily won B Grade from Brian Spring (38/50).

Klieve (45/50) claimed C Grade from Robert Marcato (41/50).

The South East Autotrade Highgun award over the three events was won by Lindner with a top score of 112/125

The club has practice every Friday afternoon and the next competition will be held on March 9.
