THE Robe Bowling Club’s Mitre 10-sponsored social bowls attracted 25 players last week, who enjoyed two games of 12 ends, with visitors from Kingston and Darwin.

There were four two-game winners, with Ryan Dew and Adrian Bermingham claiming the overall honours with 59 points.

Runners-up on 57 points were Judy Bermingham and Ron Halam.

A Round Robin was played in Adelaide last week and four Robe men competed for Region 1, hoping to defend their title from last year.

Unfortunately they lost their last game to Region 4, who finished top and Region 1 finished third.

Region 4, North Eastern won both the men’s and women’s competitions, while South Eastern women finished sixth.

There were no Friday or mid-week pennants due to the Round Robin.

In Saturday’s Open Pennant, Robe’s Division 1 bowlers travelled to Millicent and Division 2 to Penola, with both going down.

Division 1 Millicent Blue 71 shots 10 points defeated Robe 61-2.

Pat Lynch, Steve Farrell, Peter Gregory and Glenn Wright started badly and never recovered enough, to go down 26-16.

Josh Waddell, Fleur Roachock, Peter Roachock and Harold Manton led until the 10th end, but then Scanlon’s team took over and defeated Manton’s team 23-20.

Errol Jennings, David Robinson, Dean Burgoyne and Steven Kennett started slowly, giving away a seven on the second end, but fought back to be level on the 13th end.

They had the only win of the day in a close game 23-20.

Division 2 Penola 78-11 defeated Robe 57-1.

Bill Cook, Mark Murphy, Paul Truelove and Mark Giles had a big loss against Scott Degenhardt’s team 32-12.

Robbie Dahler, Peter DeLaine, Barry Bennett and Adrian Bermingham had a close game against Justin Robbie’s team, but lost 26-25.

Rob Lawrie, Ross Dening, Gordon Brown and Deane Nankivell had a 20-all draw with Peter Thompson’s team.

Pennant bowls returns to normal this week, with mid-week and Friday pennant played and all matches in Robe.
