Big field for Salver

THE second round of the Summer Salver was contested by 48 women at the Mount Gambier Golf Club last week.

The Course was running fast and the weather was perfect, which contributed to 14 women playing to their handicap or better in the stableford competition.

In Divison 2, Pauline Patterson (35 handicap) registered the best score of the day with 42 points, six shots under her handicap.

Patterson recorded 23 points on the front nine, which included a four-pointer on the eighth hole and five three pointers.

Her split for the two nines was 23/19 for 42 points.

Runner-up was Debbie Sheather (43) with another solid score of 40 points.

She had four-pointers on the second, eighth and 15th holes, with splits of 21/19, which could have been better if not for the wipe-out on the first hole.

Marie Douglas (22) continued her good golf and claimed the win in Division 1 with 41 points.

She had an comfortable win, five shots ahead of the field.

Her split was a consistent 21/20, with a genuine 90 off the stick.

Denise Harvey took second place with 93 off the stick, equating to 36 points off her handicap of 20.

She had a four-pointer on the 11th hole and four pars on her scorecard.

Twelve balls were handed out to Gail Watson, Lizzie Clements, Jane Lamont, Lorraine Stratford, Lyn Hudson, Susan Ryan, Leanne Hunt, Bev Pedlar, Mardi Goodes, Jeannette Braun, Rab Headlam and Sue McPherson.

The pro shot, on the par 3 eighth hole went to Lorraine Stratford.

The second shot on the par 5, 15th hole went to A Grade’s Leanne Hunt, B Grade’s Lizzie Clements and C Grade’s Mardi Goodes.

This Wednesday the third round of the Summer Salver will be contested in the form of stroke.

A stableford competition will be held in conjunction with the stroke round.

The fine weather continued on Saturday, with 21 women competing in a stableford competition, sponsored by Jennings Auto Repairs.

Josie Ashby (22) played consistent golf to claim the honours, with splits of 20/19 for 39 points.

She had a true 92 off the stick, which included six three-pointers.

Jess Parson (20) claimed second place with 38 points, consisting of splits of 19/19.

her score included four points on the fourth hole and seven three-pointers.

Nine balls were given out to players from Penne Saffin with 37 points down to Deb Fowler with 32.

The pro shot on the par 3 eighth hole went to Jill Johnson.
