36er joins Pioneers

THE Castec Rural Pioneers have announced 23-year-old forward, Akech Aliir will join the club’s roster in 2024.

Aliir is currently a development player at the Adelaide 36ers and played with the North Adelaide Rockets in the NBL1 Central conference in 2023.

In 18 games in the 2023 NBL1, 204 cm Aliir averaged 15.33 points, 11.33 rebounds and 2.83 assists.

Aliir is the younger brother of Port Adelaide AFL footballer Aliir Aliir.

Pioneers’ coach, Richard Hill said he looks forward to working with Aliir.

“We had Akech in for an off-season camp and he was very impressive as a player and person,” he said.

“At 6-foot-9 and with a great basketball IQ, Akech rounds out our squad perfectly.

“He’s very skilful and is hungry for success.

“I look forward to helping him reach his lofty goals.”

The Pioneers men and women are scheduled to play their first game in the 2024 NBL1 South season against Sandringham Sabres on 06 April 2024.

Their first home game at Wulanda will be against Frankston Blues on Saturday, 13 April.
