Top results in field event

A PAUSE in local archery events over the long weekend allowed three members of Blue Lake Archers to compete in the Archery SA Australia Day Field Tournament.

Building on the practice gained from the recent field archery event in the Valley Lake precinct, the trio of Ben Kilsby, David Cross and Ian Harris all returned with podium finishes in a high-class field of archers.

The tournament was hosted by Great Southern Archers at their Strathalbyn field archery course and attracted a capacity field of 48 from throughout the state.

The event was a 24-target marked course set out in the bushland of the field course.

Harris competed in the 70+ Male Compound division and at the end of the day was placed best of the trio, proudly taking his place on the top step of the podium for his division.

A pair of silver medals were earned by Kilsby and Cross.

In the highly-competitive Open Male Compound division, Kilsby had is work cut out as Harry Neve, of Cressy Bowmen, set a cracking pace on the day.

Kilsby kept the pressure on and was credited with second place.

Cross rounded out the podium finishers with second in the 50+ Male Compound Division.

Local archery returns to normal activities this week, with indoor archery at Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park, Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 12.30pm Sunday.

50+ Male Compound: Paul Bagnell (Victor Harbor Archery Club) 374; David Cross (Blue Lake Archers) 352.

70+ Male Compound: Ian Harris (Blue Lake Archers) 301; Les Woods (Great Southern Archers) 264.
