THE South Eastern Automobile Club (SEAC) is preparing to open the 2024 competition season with the Twin Peaks Hillclimb to be held in Port MacDonnell on February 10 and 11.

With the 70-strong field filled by an eager bunch of racers, the entry allowance filled in a couple of hours with more on the waiting list for the popular event.

There are two tracks on offer which test the skills of the driver and the setup of the car.

The first 1.3km track is quite tight and has a couple of tricky corners.

Add to that a sprinkle of sand blown across the road throughout the day, which changes the grip level continually, you often have quite a few cars come off the track.

The second 1.7km course is more open and is much more about car control at high speed, with a slow corner at each end and a chicane placed mid track to slow the cars to a safer speed.

Times are collated from each track for both day’s competition and the driver with the quickest times for both days is the winner of the event.

The event is held at Port MacDonnell’s Western Roadway area, west of the lighthouse.

Road access is closed off to the public both days at 8am, so all entrants’ vehicles must be in the pit area prior to the cut off time.

Driver briefing takes place at 8am on Saturday and 7.30am on Sunday, with racing to commence soon after and to run all day.

Public access is allowed to this event, but cars must be parked along the roadway and spectators must walk into the viewing areas, or into the pit area at the lookout, to see and talk with the competitors.

Catering will be at the event both days, with food and drinks available at the pit area.

The entry list has some fast car/driver combinations, including previous winners and some capable steerers of all ages who will look to do their absolute best over the two days of competition.

Trophy presentations will take place soon after the conclusion of competition on Sunday, after the results have been checked.

Event director Paul Height and his team of assistants look forward to some good weather to ensure an enjoyable event for all those involved.
