EAST GAMBIER 10/92 v PENOLA 10/31, 4/19

EAST Gambier will chase an outright victory over Penola when Day 2 of their Round 8 contest is played this Saturday.

Last week conditions at Allan Scott Park favoured the bowlers, demonstrated in both batting innings which were completed.

The Bulldogs had the Penola all our for just 31 runs, before padding up and posting a less-than-desirable 92-run total themselves.

At the end of the day the Eagles finished up 4/19 in their second innings.

They will hope for improved conditions this week in an effort to prevent another embarrassment.

While victory is all but out of the question, Penola will look to take any positives it can from the round.

Yet to post a win in the 2023-24 season, the club is going through somewhat of a rebuilding phase and has found the going tough against most opponents.

Michael Waters has been a highlight and so far has been Mr Consistent with both the bat and the ball.

His experienced will be leaned on again in Day 2, but East sits in a prime position for a big win.

The Bulldogs sit in fourth position but are nipping at the heels of Mil Lel.

The reigning premiers will hope to move their way up the order after this week, as Mil Lel faces a big task with the bat against an in-form North Sportsman’s.

Marc Roberts has three wickets to his name so far, while Alex Hentschke claimed 5/8 in the first innings.

East has plenty of talent in the bowling department and it will look to make good use of this to open the day’s proceedings, before returning to bat.

A Bulldogs victory looms, but they will now be aiming for an outright win.
