Looking to bounce back

MIL LEL v NORTH SPORTSMAN’S

FOR the second consecutive round the game to watch in Barber Shield cricket will likely unfold at Frew Park.

Last week Mil Lel was knocked off the top spot by a determined East Gambier and now the former ladder leader will be eager to bounce back.

However, they face an in-form North Sportsman’s and will need to put in a strong all-round performance if they are to stand a chance.

Against the Bulldogs it was a slow start with the bat which ultimately spelled disaster for Mil Lel.

Before recovering to post a score of 135, the side was at 4/47 and looking to be in trouble.

This is not a luxury Mil Lel can afford to give the Tigers, especially in the two-day format.

Jack Miller continues to captain Mil Lel well, leading by example with both bat and ball.

He steadied the ship at the crease last round and should Mil Lel bat first he may be called on to do the same.

Miller is even more capable with the ball and he joins a wealth of depth in Mil Lel’s bowling lineup.

Nick Walters had a good session last round with three wickets, while the likes of Craig Hicks, Mitchell Little and Dale Bachmann have all had their moments in the spotlight.

Will Rowland has been the main damage dealer with the bat and he will be eager to recover from his two runs of last round when given the chance.

North has also been a well-rounded team this campaign but there are always the standouts.

Nick McInerney often finds himself with this title and he had a big day out last weekend, with 77 runs and four wickets.

The last two-day game had Elliott Fisher top score with a half century, while McInerney and Tim Young led the bowling attack.

The Tigers are yet to win a match in the long format, with a loss to West Gambier and an abandoned fixture against Penola due to rain.

Mil Lel has won both its outings, besting Penola and South.

An entertaining clash should unfold and it will likely come down to which team can establish the best foothold on the opening day.
