A BIG weekend faces the Mount Gambier Lakers men in their last weekend of Country Basketball League prior to playoffs.

With a bye pencilled in for the final minor round, the Lakers will need to make a statement this weekend.

Currently sitting second on the ladder, the Lakers have a relatively comfortable weekend, with a Saturday night clash against the Colac Kookas, before backing up on Sunday against the Terang Tornadoes.

The Tornadoes sit in sixth position, while the Kookas are down in seventh, with the Lakers currently two games clear of the third-placed Portland Coasters.

In fact, the Coasters, the Millicent Magic and the Warrnambool Seahawks have all chalked up nine wins for the season, with a clear margin to the Tornadoes.

While it may appear the Lakers are in for two wins, last time they faced the Tornadoes they went down to the tune of two points, so anything is possible.

Against the Kookas back in Round 7, the Lakers were successful to the tune of 24 points, with Tom Daly having a day out with 48 points.

While Daly was a bit more subdued last week against the Magic, Simon Berkefeld was at his usual best, with 28 points to top the scoresheets.

The Lakers managed a hard-fought 11-point win in that clash against the Magic and will be keen to keep that winning momentum going into the post season.
