THE Borderline Speedway roars into life this Saturday night with the SA Sprintcar Title set down as the drawcard class.

In a special touch, the A Main feature will be the David Vears Memorial.

The Sprintcars will be well supported by around 30 Formula 500s, along with 15 Junior Formula 500s.

Borderline Speedway president Cary Jennings said it was an exciting night to kick proceedings off.

“We have some good names coming for the Sprintcars including Australia 1 Jack Goodyer,” he said.

“We also have locals Scott Enderl, Glen Sutherland and Parker Scott, who is Ray Scott’s grandson.

“He is firing up in a Sprintcar, stepping out of go karts.

“He has had a few race meetings and is improving which is good.

“It is good to see some young blood coming through in the Spintcars.

“We also have Brock Hallett, he won the Classic last year, Chad Ely and Matt Egel.

“He has won a few races here. Luke Dillon is another South Australian and will be one to watch and Marcus Dumesny.”

With around 25 cars nominated, Jennings said the racing should be exciting.

Jennings was also pleased to see the Junior Formula 500s now racing in their own class.

“The Junior Formula 500s are under 17 years old,” he said.

“It is good to see we have another group racing.

“They have their own class – they would be in dad’s car or his older car.

“We also have a group of local Street Stock competitors to add to the night.”

As for the David Vears Memroial, Jennings said it was a nice tribute.

“David raced Sprintcars for many years and did dabble in Sedans,” he said.

“He ran Super Modifieds which was the predecessor of Sprintcars, then went into Sprintcars and had some success in that.

“David passed away last year and the family asked if we could have a memorial race for him.

“He was a great loss to the speedway.

“He has been president, life member and an integral part of the working group out there after he retired.

“His passing was sad for everyone so it will be good to have a memorial race for him.”

From there the speedway moves on to December 9, with TI Bill series for Wingless Sprint, the Southern Street Stock series and Junior Sedans.

December 28 will see part of the Speedweek series, which has replaced the World Series Sprintcars in recent years.

The week begins with two nights at Murray Bridge, a night at Mount Gambier, then onto Avalon and Warrnambool.

The night will include Speedcars and the Modlites state title.

Jennings said nominations for the Sprintcars were starting to flow in.

On January 5 the Borderline will see the Formula 500 Stampede Speedweek, with the Wingless Sprints Summer Slam.

From there is one of the biggest nights on the Borderline Speedway Calendar.

“On January 18 we have the 30th running of the Kings Challenge Jennings said.

“It looks like we might get around 8-10 American drivers there, which will be great.

“We hope to get 50-60 Sprintcars there for a good night’s entertainment.”

The season continues on with other meetings to also include the time-honoured Easter Trail on March 30, the culminates with the SA Limited Sportsman Title.

For those looking to head out on Saturday night, keep your eyes on the Borderline Speedway social media pages for an update on the weather.

Jennings said rain is expected and if it does look like impacting the night, the race meeting will be called off early.
