EAST GAMBIER v NORTH GAMBIER

THE match of the Western Border netball round will be played at McDonald Park this Saturday.

East Gambier hosts North Gambier, with the latter coming off a confidence-boosting win over Millicent last week.

On the other hand the Bulldogs will chase a more consistent performance after a poor start and finish cost them against West Gambier in a game where they otherwise matched the ladder leaders.

Morgan Amy thrives on playing the tall shooters in the competition and her battle with North shooter Grace Potts will be one of the match-defining clashes.

Amy is strong in the air and works the front position with strength to try and deny her taller opponents easy ball.

With her partner in crime Bo Creek also hunting interceptions higher up the court, North will not want to take the East defensive line lightly.

Of course, Brianna Walters and Mel Renko are quality feeders and along with Tigers’ goal attack Macey Griffith they have built great connection with Potts.

As such pressure from the likes of Chloe Perryman and Eliza Cole on the incoming ball will be crucial if the Bulldogs are to stay in touch on the scoreboard.

This weekend marks a new challenge for North circle defenders Mikaila Pitt, Noni McConnell and Stella Mobbs.

Rather than denying a tall shooter ball, they will be faced with a quick-moving circle.

Renee Henke is not afraid to take the long shot and Casey Horrigan uses her timing on the baseline move to find space in range.

Coming off a strong performance in her 350th game Tarsh McCallum will also be a player to watch, with her battle against Lauran Norman or Pitt another key match up.

No one works the small spaces better than McCallum and her delivery is always precise.

In the end though North just has too many weapons to let this one slip as finals approach.
