THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its monthly competition on Saturday.

Shot in adverse conditions, a heavy downpour started proceedings before the rest of the seasons followed with sun, strong winds and more showers scattered across the day.

An electricity outage caused delays and a portable power supply had to be set up to finish off the final competition in a challenging event for all involved.

Regardless, there was still some top scores obtained by the leading shooters, with Gavin Height the most consistent on the day to claim the high gun honours with a total of 115/130.

The opening event was the Shadforth Financial Group 25-target Club Pointscore Championship.

The competition was shot enthusiastically as competitors chased points towards the yearly aggregate award.

Max Medhurst showed off fine marksmanship to secure the overall and AA Grade win with 71/75.

He bested Height who finished AA Grade runner-up on 88/93, while Rodney Gilcrist shot 68/75 to narrowly edge out Andrew Hoare (67/75) for the A Grade honours.

B Grade was won by John McIntyre with a 67/75 from Brian Spring with 66/78 and Rob Marcato won his first club sash when shooting a 61/75 to win C Grade over Brian Case (62/78).

Next on the schedule was the Trent Milich Plumbing 25-target Handicap Championship event.

Again it was exceptionally well shot in the appalling conditions and Jamie Dunn’s perfect 25/25 handed him the win over Gary Allison (28/29), James McKinnon (27/29), Hayden Megaw (30/32) and Darren Beyer (29/32).

The Mount Gambier Rural Supplies 15-pair Zone Double Rise Championship concluded the round, with the damp conditions adding further challenge to an already difficult event.

Ken Atkin was the best of the bunch and his 25/30 earned him the overall and A Grade bragging rights over Height who shot 34/40.

Don Pratt was the best in AA Grade and his 21/30 earned him the win, while Hoare shot 24/30 to top B Grade.

Warren Lindner finished runner-up for B Grade with 32/40, while Doug Rohde equalled Dale Robertson both on 19/30 in C Grade.

The Black Crow Club gained two donor members on the day being Daniel Robinson and Peter Klieve, with the AGM following the competition.

Hoare was presented with life membership, while he will also continue in the president role, looking to lead the club to another successful year.

The next event will be held on Saturday August 12.
