THE first of five rounds of the Marlene Lingham memorial stableford trophy, sponsored by the Blue Lake Bar and Bistro, was played at the Blue Lake Golf Club in mild, but cool conditions last Wednesday.

In a purple patch, Division 1 winner Josie Ashby backed up her recent wins, signing for 34 points, only two strokes over her handicap of 23.

The outward nine of 18 points even to the card, consisted of three three-pointers on the the sixth, eighth and ninth holes, coming home on the inward nine with 16 points.

Five one-pointers and no scrubs overall was a good effort for a well-deserved win.

Karen Panagopoulos (23 handicap) followed with a reasonable 33 points, carding splits of 17/16 that included pars on the second and 11th holes, also with five one-pointers and no scrubs on her card.

Third place after a three-way tie with Dianne Perryman and Helen Myers was Rosemary Martland (17) after all posted 32 points.

Due to low numbers in Division 2 there was only one prize winner and the top scorer was Carol Melhuish (36) signing for 29 points.

Splits of 15/14 included three three-pointers as well as a four-pointer from a chip-in ferret on the par 3 16th hole.

Nearest the pin second-shot winner’s on the 14th hole were Division 1’s Lee-Anne Medhurst and Division 2’s Johanna Gogan.

The pro-shot on the down-hill fifth hole was won by Sue Agars, who landed her ball just 29cm from the hole, resulting in an easy tap-in birdie.

She eliminated Annette Ford’s 96cm measurement.

Martland was another to have a birdie recorded after a chip-in ferret on the par 4 dog-leg 15th hole, also winning the best back nine score.

Captain Geraldine Scott had a ferret on the 13th.

Tomorrow is the second round of the Marlene Lingham memorial stableford trophy.
