THE Mid South East netball Round 10 clash at Kongorong saw the strong outfit of Kalangadoo take on the young Hawks at home.

The first quarter saw both sides go hard at the ball, with Kongorong turning over the first ball of the game to score, but the Magpies quickly settled, moving the ball well and converting accurately.

Kalangadoo’s Jayde Peacock was on from the first whistle, working hard with the drive and feeding to Ebony McDiarmid who was accurate under the post.

With the Hawks looking nervous in the first quarter, the Magpies were able to capitalise for a 15-goal lead at the first break.

The second quarter saw the defensive line-ups for both teams intense.

Magpies’ Abbey Duncan and Hawks’ Riley Buckingham battled hard in the circle, both at times influential for their respective sides.

Lara Munro found herself having a good look at the ball, giving her side plenty of turnover opportunities.

The Hawks eventually settled in the second quarter, with Ebony Lawson moving to centre and bringing some composure to the Hawks young attack.

However, their hard work was not able to convert to the scoreboard where Kalangadoo pushed its lead out by a further seven at half time to lead 43-10.

The defensive pressure lifted all over the court in the third term for the Hawks, but it was not enough to run over Kalangadoo who also found a new gear after the half-time break.

Chloe Peacock worked overtime at wing attack for the Magpies, both on the offensive and defensive, while Duncan continued to control the game down the attack line.

Lauren Kain was out for a hunt at goal defence and provided more opportunities for her side, leading the Magpies to outscore the Hawks 21-4 as they worked the ball down the court fast and with accuracy.

Munro continued working overtime down the defensive end for Kalangadoo, while Lawson and Jayde Peacock did not ease up in a thrilling contest down the court.

Rach Perry settled well into goal defence while Buckingham went to the bench, but McDiarmid took the opportunity of a new combo to her advantage where she slotted 16 for the quarter and it was Kalangadoo that could ran away with a big 87-21 win.

Best players for the victors were Munro and Duncan, with Lawson and Perry best for Kongorong.
